What’s Next After Prompt Engineering?

Harvard Business Review writer Oguz Acar says the future of generative AI is in problem formulation, not prompt engineering. Despite prompt engineering's popularity, which involves optimizing text input for large language models like ChatGPT... he believes the hype might not last for long.

Because future AI systems are expected to become more intuitive at understanding natural language, reducing the need for meticulously engineered prompts. Acar says problem formulation — the ability to identify, analyze, and delineate problems — is the skill you want to master for the future.

For prompt engineering, you need to know how to use a specific AI tool and how to write strong inputs. But problem formulation is about understanding what the problem is at its core, how big it is, and its limits. And this is something AI won't replace as quickly.

Unraveling AI

Subscriber Submitted Question: "Why do I keep hearing about AI tools and APIs? I know they're important, but don't really understand how they work."

Our Answer: Think of APIs, or Application Programming Interfaces, like waiters in a restaurant. For this analogy, you are an application that needs a service, the kitchen is the AI tool, and the waiter is the API.

The application tells the API what it needs, the API communicates this to the AI tool, and then the API brings the result back to the application. This allows different applications to interact and use the AI tool without needing to know the complex details of how the AI tool works.

The importance of APIs in AI systems is akin to the role of waiters in a restaurant. Just like you would order various dishes through the waiter, applications utilize APIs to access different services offered by an AI tool. For example, you can access ChatGPTs API and use it with other third party tools like ChatbotUI.

Tool to Try

AssemblyAI - A cutting-edge technology platform that provides AI models to transcribe and understand speech. One use case of many is transcribing a YouTube video's audio into text. The platform is praised for its superior accuracy, even when compared to tech from some of the world's largest companies.

We keep hearing that AssemblyAI provides better transcription than its competitors, but with the caveat that "you have to know how to write code to use it because it's API-only".

Founder of Musical U and AI Marketers facebook group member, Christopher Sutton, is a coder by trade...and says this simply isn't true. Not only does AssemblyAI provide the code for you, it takes just a few minutes to set up.

In an easy-to-follow tutorial, Christopher shows you exactly how to get AssemblyAI running on your computer, and even a few examples of how it transcribes audio to text in blazing fast time. You can watch the video below.

Threads, which looks similar to Twitter, lets users post messages, reply to other users, and like or repost messages. The service also lets users of Meta-owned Instagram follow the same accounts on Threads, which could help people add followers.

"Our vision is to take the best parts of Instagram and create a new experience for text, ideas and discussing what's on your mind," Meta founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in an Instagram post after Threads was made available for download. Secretive Hardware Startup Humane’s First Product is the Ai Pin

Humane, the startup launched by ex-Apple design and engineering duo Imran Chaudhri and Bethany Bongiorno, revealed details about its first product: The Humane Ai Pin.

The Ai Pin will be able to — assuming Humane’s claims hold water — perform many of the tasks a smartphone can, but with fewer gestures and voice commands required. Activated with a tap, the Ai Pin, designed to clip to a breast pocket, can offer a summary of emails and calendar invites, translate between languages and answer and place phone calls.

Thanks to a camera and computer vision-powered software, the Ai Pin can also recognize objects around it, such as food nutrition labels. And using a built-in projector and depth sensor, it can project an interactive interface onto nearby surfaces, like the palm of a hand or the surface of a table.

Mind Fodder

Someone asked ChatGPT to invent new emotions and it came up with a fastinating array like:

Lostalgia: A longing for knowledge or
understanding that once was, but has now
been forgotten. This could be triggered by
encountering a topic or skill that you used to
be adept at, but haven't practiced in years.

Zephyrella: The unexpected joy that
comes from a gentle breeze on a hot day
or the subtle rustling of leaves.
