MIT Scientists Unveil "Chain of Destiny" AI Prompt

It's not only ChatGPT. All chatbots from Google’s Bard to Claude 2 make up sources, facts, and statistics out of thin air. The worst part is they spit them back at you with complete conviction.

Major Harvard Study: AI Leads to 40% Productivity Boost for Workers

Is the hype real? It's a question we've all asked ourselves since the AI boom started. A new study out of Harvard says the answer is a resounding yes.

This landmark research project involved hundreds of consultants using ChatGPT to complete realistic projects. The results are striking: Consultants using AI finished 12.2% more tasks on average, completed tasks 25.1% more quickly, and produced 40% higher quality results than those without.

Yet one carefully designed task revealed the dangers of overreliance. By "falling asleep at the wheel," consultants missed errors and performed worse than those without AI.

One of the researchers Ethan Mollik says the key is to become a "Cyborg," integrating human and machine. Rather than handing work fully to AI, collaborate across this jagged frontier. Blend abilities, guide AI, and leverage its strengths while vigilantly watching for mistakes.

In a follow up post, Mollik shares his personal blueprint for navigating the AI-powered future of work...and how to most effectively use AI to enhance your productivity and creativity.

But how does it work? Think of AI as a meticulous detective. It's analyzing your browsing history and purchase patterns to create a consumer profile. One that predicts your needs and desires. This technology is also learning to appeal to different generations - from traditionalists to tech-savvy Gen Z. While the convenience is enticing, ethical concerns remain. Intrusiveness, manipulation, and limiting exposure to diverse perspectives come to mind.Still, for marketers, it's a potential goldmine, enabling hyper-targeted and resonant messaging. As AI personalization advances, we must balance its benefits against risks to privacy and free choice. Mel Parrott explains why the opportunity lies in shaping an ethical path forward, where technology serves our values, not the other way around.Full Post

Prompt of the Week

An AI prompt for marketers is a text input designed to guide an AI like ChatGPT in generating creative marketing ideas and copy. It helps you leverage AI to enhance your campaigns and decision-making processes.

This week's prompt comes from Salesforce. The cloud computing company teamed up with MIT scientists to create what they call the "Chain of Destiny" prompt. The prompt has AI go through the same task and attempt to improve it again and again.

Every round, the AI outputs the result of the revisions 'out loud'. That way it's able to use that as an example to re-prompt itself as it continues to generate.

It's like having your AI generate its own chain of thought until it creates the optimal output.

"Summaries generated by CoD are more abstractive, exhibit more fusion, and have less of a lead bias than GPT-4 summaries generated by a vanilla prompt," the team wrote.

Here's the Chain of Destiny prompt:

💡
<insert text>

You will generate increasingly concise, entity-dense summaries of the above article.

Repeat the following 2 steps 5 times.

Step 1. Identify 1-3 informative entities (";" delimited) from the article which are missing from the previously generated summary.

Step 2. Write a new, denser summary of identical length which covers every entity and detail from the previous summary plus the missing entities.

A missing entity is: - relevant to the main story, - specific yet concise (5 words or fewer), - novel (not in the previous summary), - faithful (present in the article), - anywhere (can be located anywhere in the article).

Guidelines: - The first summary should be long (4-5 sentences, ~80 words) yet highly non-specific, containing little information beyond the entities marked as missing.

Use overly verbose language and fillers (e.g., "this article discusses") to reach ~80 words.

- Make every word count: rewrite the previous summary to improve flow and make space for additional entities.

- Make space with fusion, compression, and removal of uninformative phrases like "the article discusses".

- The summaries should become highly dense and concise yet self-contained, i.e., easily understood without the article.

- Missing entities can appear anywhere in the new summary.

- Never drop entities from the previous summary. If space cannot be made, add fewer new entities. Remember, use the exact same number of words for each summary.

Read the full research paper here.

Now, the prompt is written to generate a concise and detailed summary of an article (or any text of your choice.) Which in and of itself is not all that useful for us marketers.

But the principle behind it is extremely powerful. And with a little modification, you can use its self-optimizing power to write better copy, uncover new angles, and anything you can dream up.

Unraveling AI

Subscriber Submitted Question: "Where do you think we're at in the adoption of AI for small businesses?"

Our Answer: Normal people are trying to use AI. You feel like you’re missing out if you’re not. So, a lot of businesses are attempting to implement AI and gain an advantage. The first time they used the tech, most folks had that ‘a-ha’ moment.

But it’s not so simple to implement. Most are using boilerplate stuff right now and not getting the results they were promised.

Many of these companies are going to bring in AI experts to implement the tech for them. They’re going to go from thinking AI is a magical solution, to knowing AI CAN be the magical solution if you have the right people in place.

Tool to Try

Poe - The purpose of Poe is to simplify the usage of bots by integrating them into a single platform. Poe takes some of the popular bots like ChatGPT, Claude, GPT-4, and Llama and makes them accessible so that you can easily switch back and forth between bots.

For example, a copywriter might use ChatGPT to quickly generate initial content drafts. They could then refine and polish that content using Claude, which excels at natural language.

By integrating all these bots into one platform, you can tap into multiple cutting-edge language models without constantly switching between different apps and interfaces. This saves time, boosts work quality, and allows you to capitalize on the different strengths of each bot.

Plus, Poe is a great value. For $19.99 a month you get access to GPT-4, Claude 2-100k, anda bunch of other premium models. For comparison, ChatGPT Plus alone is $20 a month.

AI Art Generator Dall-E 3 Coming to ChatGPT

OpenAI today unveiled an upgraded version of its text-to-image tool, DALL-E, that uses ChatGPT. ChatGPT will take a prompt as short as a few words and create an AI generated image - right inside the platform.

ChatGPT integration isn’t the only thing that’s new with DALL-E 3. DALL-E 3 also generates higher-quality images that more accurately reflect prompts, OpenAI says — especially when dealing with longer prompts. And it better handles content that’s historically tripped up image-generating models, like text and human hands.
