Who’s Reading Your Data: Google & OpenAI Under the Privacy Spotlight

Google and OpenAI are drawing attention for their use of personal data. Google's recent privacy policy update suggests they use user data to refine services and create new products.

This has sparked lawsuits and public concern. Similarly, OpenAI, the creator of the well-known chatbot ChatGPT, collects a wide range of user data, which also raises privacy questions.

Both companies argue they're protecting user data. Google's chatbot, Bard, ensures data is encrypted and that it only collects necessary data, giving users control over their information. ChatGPT emphasizes that OpenAI anonymizes data and doesn't use personal conversations for AI training.

Despite these promises, there's more than meets the eye. And its crucial you know the full story these tech giants aren't telling.

Prompt of the Week

An AI prompt for marketers is a text input designed to guide an AI like ChatGPT in generating creative marketing ideas and copy. It helps you leverage AI to enhance your campaigns and decision-making processes.

This week's prompt is a little different, because OpenAI just launched 'Custom Instructions' for ChatGPT users. Now, you don’t have to write the same instruction prompts to the chatbot every time they interact with it — inputs like “Write the answer under 1,000 words” or “Keep the tone of response formal.”

The magnificent Molly Mahoney posted a video tutorial in the AI Marketers group where she dives into the new world of custom instructions in ChatGPT.

She shows you how to set them up and provides a handy prompt guide...discuss the importance of seasoning your AI with specific information about your business and ideal clients...

Plus, some tips on creating content that taps into buying beliefs and leads to sales.

Unraveling AI

Subscriber Submitted Question: "Does 'assigning a role' to a chatbot actually matter? I just ran a rather quick (lazy) test and it seems like the headline came out better when I didn't assign a role. I'm not suggesting that no role assigned is better. I'm asking, does it really make any difference?"

Our Answer: Not really. When you describe the role, you give it additional context on important elements you want it to focus on. Which will give you outputs focused around what you want. But getting a better output from a certain prompt ONE time isn't really relevant.

There's still a bit of randomness to it. You can run the same prompt 100 times and some headlines will naturally be better than others. We just look for guidelines to generate better output consistently.

Sci-fi Author Uses AI to Promote New Book

Best-selling Brazilian author PJ Caldas used AI technology to release a book trailer for his first novel in English. The 82-second meditative animation uses AI for all aspects of the production - from design to motion and music.

“Allowing the AI to create every frame by itself, with zero interference from humans, was nerve-racking, and that’s what made it so interesting,” said PJ .

Artificial intelligence is one of the major inspirations for the novel, which also features AI characters in the plot. He added, “Allowing AI to create the book trailer was like letting the characters tell their own story.”

Jobs Apocalypse? Netflix is Hiring an AI manager for Up to $900,000 a Year

Netflix is hiring a product manager to ramp up internal use of artificial intelligence. In the job listing first spotted by The Intercept, Netflix offers a whopping salary range of $300,000 to $900,000 to the successful applicant.

Their tasks will include developing the "strategic vision" for Netflix's use of AI through its machine learning platform, which the company says "offers ML/AI practitioners across Netflix the means to achieve the highest possible impact with their work by making it easy to develop, deploy and improve their machine-learning models."

Netflix already famously uses artificial intelligence to customize users' recommendations, as well as select thumbnail art that appeals to an individual's specific taste. The company was even parodied in Netflix's own Black Mirror for it.

Mind Fodder

An AI news anchor named 'Lisa' presented the news in India for the first time. While clearly an AI with glitches and non-human giveaways, it's not hard to imagine how soon she will be indistinguishable from a real person.

Odisha TV's managing director, Jagi Mangat Panda, said "Lisa is going to be a great partner. [It] does the jobs that are repetitive and data analytical, so newspeople can focus on new angles and more creative work."
