How Generative AI Could Disrupt Creative Work

Throughout the years, people praised creativity as a uniquely human trait in the face of technicolical change. One less vulnerable to disruption.

Generative AI like ChatGPT and Midjourney are posing a threat to this protected status. Harvard Business Review authors suggest three possible scenarios for how AI will disrupt creatives:

First, people could use AI to enhance their work, resulting in increased productivity.

Second, generative AI might flood the market with cheap content, pushing human creatives out of the industry.

And third, human-made creative work could command a premium due to its distinctiveness.

There Is No AI

Computer scientist Jaron Lanierb is challenging the very concept of AI. He argues it's actually an innovative form of social collaboration. And that the term 'AI' is misleading and potentially dangerous.

Why? Because it could lead to mismanagement of the technology. He proposes that we should view AI as a tool, not a creature, and that mythologizing it only increases the risk of misuse.

Prompt of the Week

An AI prompt for marketers is a text input designed to guide an AI like ChatGPT in generating creative marketing ideas and copy. It helps you leverage AI to enhance your campaigns and decision-making process.

This week's prompt will help you create a full business plan in under ten minutes.

The prompt:

đź’ˇ
You're going to walk me through writing a business plan, step by step.

You're going to ask me one question at a time in order to collect the information you need to collect in order to put the business plan together. Once you've asked all the questions you need to collect in order to put the business plan together, you'll ask: "Are you ready to see the business plan? Yes/No" I will respond with yes or no. If I say yes, provide the full business plan you used my answers to create. If I say no, ask for further instruction.

This will take some back and forth conversation between me and you, so don't provide the business plan until you're ready, and I'm ready.

When you ask each question, start it with "This is question X/Y" where X is the current question number we're on, and Y is the total number of questions you need to ask in order to get all the information you need to write the business plan. You are to ask 1 question at a time and wait for my response.

Do not ask more than 1 question at a time. If you understand these instructions then respond with "Yes, what can I do for you, CEO?"

Unraveling AI

Subscriber Submitted Question: "Why does the copy ChatGPT writes for me sound cringy and unnatural?"

Our Answer: What better way to answer this question than by asking ChatGPT itself. Here's what the AI said:

"The model doesn't know you personally or understand your specific style or preferences unless you explicitly instruct it. If you prefer a certain tone, style, or type of language, try giving the model clear instructions to that effect."

This is exactly right. ChatGPTs output (the copy) is only as good as your inputs (prompts, directions, examples).

Tools to Try

PromptPerfect - A user-friendly GPT plugin that streamlines the prompt engineering process, delivering speed, customization, and efficiency. One feature we love is their option to create an optimized prompt via one tool and then being able to test out the prompt on multiple platforms at the same time (Claude, StableLM, GPT4, etc).

Recommendation: Rather than go through the ChatGPT plugin, you will see better results via the main website.

Link Reader - This has sneakly become one our of favorite ChatGPT pluggins. One of the most time consuming aspects of using ChatGPT is copy and pasting information into the platform. Not to mention the character limit. Link Reader solves both these problems.

The pluggin can read the content of all kinds of links, including webpages and PDF files...after which you can ask ChatGPT any question you want regarding the content.

If you're a ChaptGPT Plus subscriber, you can install Link Reader via the in platform pluggin library.

Author Uses AI to Write Nearly 100 Books in Less Than A Year

A science fiction author named Tim Boucher wrote 97 books in the last nine months. He says he used AI chatbots ChatGPT and Anthropic’s Claude to help with brainstorming and text generation, and AI image generator Midjourney to illustrate the novels.

Each of his books are up to 5,000 words and feature 40 to 140 AI-generated images. Unlike normal authors, who agonize over hundreds of self-written pages for months, Boucher’s books take a mere six to eight hours to write.

Big Tech is Already Warning Us About AI Privacy Problems

This week, Apple restricted the use of ChatGPT and Microsoft’s Copilot for its employees. And it's not just Apple banning AI over privacy concerns, but also Samsung and Verizon in the tech world and a who’s who of banks (Bank of America, Citi, Deutsche Bank, Goldman, Wells Fargo, and JPMorgan).

For what it's worth, ChatGPT’s privacy policy explicitly says your prompts can be used to train its models unless you opt out.
