Wherefore Art Thou, Bard? Google's AI Chatbot Changes Name to Gemini

Bard hasn't really challenged ChatGPT in many ways, and it's short history is already packed with missteps and limitations. So, it makes perfect sense that Google Bard is getting a new name on its first anniversary, hopefully distancing the current tool from its troubled introduction.

Starting today, the artist formerly known as Google Bard will be known as Gemini, and the name change is actually one of the least interesting updates.

Company Loses Millions After Employee Duped By Video Call Deepfakes

An employee at the Hong Kong office of a multinational company transferred nearly $26 million to scammers last month after unwittingly attending a video call with deepfakes of their co-workers ― including the company’s chief financial officer. The employee was the only human attending the video call, while the fake participants were impersonated with the help of artificial intelligence.

Amazon Debuts ‘Rufus,’ an AI Shopping Assistant

Amazon announced today the launch of an AI-powered shopping assistant it’s calling Rufus that’s been trained on the e-commerce giant’s product catalog as well as information from around the web.  For example, Amazon suggests a customer in the market for running shoes could ask Rufus questions like “What to consider when buying a running shoe?” “What are the differences between trail and road running shoes?” or “Are these durable?”
