OpenAI Accused of Mimicking Scarlett Johansson, Tech Company Pauses ChatGPT Voice

On Monday, just shy of a week after OpenAI debuted the voice, Johansson's publicist, Marcel Pariseau, issued a statement to FOX Business explaining that the actress' legal team had sent the tech company two letters asking them to explain their process of how they came up with the personal assistant's voice in their AI technology.

OpenAI demonstrated the voice last week and many observers found an uncanny likeness between the assistant's voice and Johansson's voice in the 2013 sci-fi film "Her." The movie focused on a man falling in love with the voice of the female operating system on his computer.

Google Launches New AI Features to Help Retail Marketers

One of the key features is the introduction of visual brand profiles on Google Search, which will highlight information provided by retailers through Google Merchant Center, These profiles will include engaging product and brand imagery, videos, customer reviews, and current deals and promotions.

To help retailers create better, on-brand content, Google has enhanced its Product Studio, an AI-powered content creation platform. Merchants can now generate new product images that align with their unique brand style by simply uploading an image and adding a prompt describing the scene.

Microsoft Announces Copilot Plus PCs with Built-in AI Hardware

Microsoft is making a major push to put AI into laptops. It’s introducing a new branding today called “Copilot Plus PCs” that’ll highlight when Windows laptops come with built-in AI hardware and support for AI features across the operating system.

The AI capabilities will be possible thanks to a neural processor included with the laptops. One of the flagship features it’ll power is “Recall,” which is supposed to use AI to create a searchable “photographic memory” of everything you’ve done and seen on your PC. The laptops will run more than 40 AI models as part of Windows 11 to power these new features.

Humane is Looking for a Buyer After the AI Pin’s Underwhelming Debut

Bloomberg reports say the company is looking for a price of between $750 million and $1 billion, but the process is still in its infancy. The technology company focuses on consumer electronics that use AI. In November 2023, Humane Inc had raised a whopping $230 million with investors including Open AI CEO Sam Altman, Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff, Microsoft, LG, Qualcomm, Volvo, and Tiger Global.

Apple Just Weeks Away From Unveiling its Big AI Marketing Effort

The tech company is planning to reveal a host of new technologies at its Worldwide Developers Conference, on 10 June. That will include generative AI tools that it has largely avoided until now. Many of those features could come to Siri, in an attempt to improve the built-in voice assistant.

Some of those updates will include services to auto-summarise notifications from the iPhone, giving a quick summary of news articles and transcribing voice memos, according to Bloomberg. It could also include new features for photo editing that are based on artificial intelligence.

OpenAI Strikes Reddit Deal to Train its AI on Your Posts

OpenAI has signed a deal for access to real-time content from Reddit’s data API, which means it can surface discussions from the site within ChatGPT and other new products. It’s an agreement similar to the one Reddit signed with Google earlier this year that was reportedly worth $60 million.

The deal will also “enable Reddit to bring new AI-powered features to Redditors and mods” and use OpenAI’s large language models to build applications. OpenAI has also signed up to become an advertising partner on Reddit.

WPP’s Next Move to Gain AI Dominance in Advertising

WPP has revealed its next step in its pursuit to be the leading global advertising agency when it comes to using AI. The world’s largest agency group is integrating Anthropic’s Claude AI model family into its intelligent marketing operating system, WPP Open.

Commercial details haven't been revealed. WPP is spending $250 million each year on AI, which the group believes will enhance, not replace, human creativity.

Microsoft will soon allow businesses and developers to build AI-powered Copilots that can work like virtual employees and perform tasks automatically. Instead of Copilot sitting idle waiting for queries, it will be able to do things like monitor email inboxes and automate a series of tasks or data entry that employees normally have to do manually.

It’s a big change in the behavior of Copilot in what the industry commonly calls AI agents, or the ability for chatbots to intelligently perform complex tasks autonomously.
