LinkedIn Launches its First AI Agent to Take on the Role of Job Recruiters
Want a robot to do your hiring? LinkedIn's newest AI tool can. The job site just launched an AI assistant that does what human recruiters do, but faster.
It writes job posts, finds good matches, and talks to candidates - all based on skills, not where they went to school. And big companies like AMD, Canva, and Siemens are already using it.The system taps into LinkedIn's massive pool of 1 billion users and learns from 41,000 different job skills.
"We want to free up recruiters to focus on what truly matters," says LinkedIn's VP Hari Srinivasan. Soon it will also book interviews and handle all the back-and-forth with job seekers.
AI Now Writes Over 25% of Code at Google
Robots are now writing Google's code - and lots of it. Google just told investors that AI creates a quarter of all their new computer programs now. Their tech teams check every line to make sure it works right, with senior coders giving the final okay. And the plan is making Google richer - they made $88.2 billion last quarter, up 15% from last year.

Reddit Hits First Profit as AI Drives Explosive Growth
After twenty years of waiting, Reddit has finally struck gold. The popular discussion website just reported its first-ever profit, bringing in nearly $30 million last quarter. What's driving this success? A clever mix of new AI features and smart business deals. Tech giants like Google and OpenAI are paying Reddit to use its content for training their AI systems.
The platform also now automatically translates posts into different languages. Which has spurred growth in countries like France, India, and the Philippines. Reddit plans to expand its translation service to over 30 countries next year.
Microsoft’s GitHub Expands Beyond OpenAI
Microsoft's GitHub is shaking up the coding world with major AI upgrades. The company announced Tuesday that its Copilot assistant will now let developers choose between different AI models - including Anthropic's Claude 3.5 Sonnet, Google's Gemini 1.5 Pro, and OpenAI's GPT-4o. "There is no one model to rule every scenario," says GitHub CEO Thomas Dohmke.
The biggest news might be Spark. This is their new AI tool that can turn simple text descriptions into working app prototypes with just a few clicks. Developers can modify the code behind these designs. Then, choose between different AI models to power the tool. This move signals Microsoft's expansion beyond its OpenAI partnership after November's leadership shake-up.
People Are Turning to AI Chatbots for ‘Tough Love' and Motivation
People are turning to ChatGPT for a surprising new purpose: brutal honesty. Users are asking the AI chatbot to criticize their social media profiles and give harsh feedback about their lives. The hope is this tough love will motivate them to make changes. "Tell me something that will destroy me so much that it will make me go to the gym," reads one popular request.
Clinical psychologist Molly Burrets warns this approach needs careful consideration. She suggests users check in with themselves: "Am I getting the outcomes I hoped for? How am I feeling about this process?"
At the Frontier of AI
Google to Develop AI that Takes Over Computers
Google is developing an AI assistant that can take the wheel of your web browser. Known as Project Jarvis, this new technology will work alongside google's Gemini. The AI would help users by taking control of their browser to complete tasks like online shopping and research. Rumors are of a release as early as December. This is just another horse in the race to create computer-using agent. Microsoft's OpenAI and Anthropic are working on similar tools.
Meta Builds AI Search Engine to Cut Google, Bing Reliance
Meta is tired of asking Google and Bing for answers. According to The Information's Monday report, Meta is building its own AI search engine to power its apps. Soon you'll be able to chat with Meta's AI on Facebook, Instagram, or WhatsApp. The AI will provide conversational answers about news, sports, and stocks without leaving the platform.
This is a big change from how things work now. Currently, when you ask Meta's AI chatbot a question about current events, it has to check Google or Bing for answers. Meta wants to cut out these middlemen and handle searches on its own. The company has already taken its first step by partnering with Reuters, giving its AI direct access to breaking news.
Google Tests New AI Tool for Large Advertisers
Google is testing a new AI tool that helps big advertisers find hidden opportunities in search advertising. Called "Search Bidding Exploration," the tool spots valuable search terms that don't get much traffic and automatically adjusts advertising targets to capture these overlooked chances for sales.
The tool aims to solve a common problem in AI advertising: finding new customers instead of just reaching people who would buy anyway. It works by lowering target goals by up to 10% to explore new search terms.
OpenAI Set to Release its Next Big AI Model in December
OpenAI's next AI model could be up to 100 times more powerful than its current GPT-4 system. The Verge reports that this new model, code-named Orion, might launch in December, with Microsoft planning to offer it on its Azure platform as early as November. Unlike previous releases, this new AI won't debut on ChatGPT first. Instead, OpenAI plans to give select companies early access to build their own products with it. The final name of the model hasn't been confirmed yet - it might not even be called GPT-5.
Elon Musk’s xAI Startup in Talks to RaiseFunding at $40B Valuation
Elon Musk's AI company xAI is seeking to raise billions in new funding, which could value the startup at $40 billion. This is a huge jump from its $24 billion valuation just five months ago. The company has built what Nvidia's CEO calls "easily the fastest supercomputer on the planet" in Memphis, and plans to double its processing power soon.
The company's chatbot, Grok, is currently only available on Musk's social platform X, but xAI just released tools for developers to build their own apps.
