ChatGPT's Gotten Lazy (Here's the funny reason why)

It's not only ChatGPT. All chatbots from Google’s Bard to Claude 2 make up sources, facts, and statistics out of thin air. The worst part is they spit them back at you with complete conviction.

ChatGPT's Gotten Lazy (Here's the funny reason why)

Lately, a lot of ChatGPT users have noticed the AI getting "lazier", refusing tasks and giving simplified replies. Maybe you have too? OpenAI admitted it's an issue but doesn't know why. Some propose what's being called the "winter break hypothesis"—that ChatGPT learned from its training to mimic human behavior and slow down over the holidays.

A developer named Rob Lynch posted on X that he tested GPT-4  through the API and found shorter completions when the model was fed a December date (4,086 characters) than when fed a May date (4,298 characters).

The jury's still out. But the fact that AI researchers take the seasonal change idea seriously shows how unpredictable and quirky large language models can be.

People already use odd tricks to encourage better chatbot performance, like telling it to "take a deep breath" before math problems. As discovering new prompts gets weirder, what started as a joke may end up a legit way to optimize AIs. Even if the "winter break" theory fizzles out, it spotlights how much we still need to learn about the inner workings of models like ChatGPT.

Prompt of the Week

An AI prompt for marketers is a text input designed to guide an AI like ChatGPT in generating creative marketing ideas and copy. It helps you leverage AI to enhance your campaigns and decision-making processes.

This Week's Feature: The Lever Prompt

Need to dial an AI model up or down? Try this lever-like prompt to crank its output to your exact specs.

AI prompting expert Moritz Kremb recently created this tiny prompt that makes a huge difference. Gone are the days of settling for default settings. With this lever, you can precisely shift styles on a scale from 1 to 10.

Transform ideas from basic to boundary-pushing, shift tones from formal to casual, and take control of the output to steer your AI companion exactly where you desire.

You'll find the prompt below. However, we highly recommend checking out Moritz's X thread, where he demonstrates how to use The Lever Prompt in various powerful ways.

Unraveling AI

Subscriber Submitted Question: "Anyone figure out yet how to get ChatGPT to stop saying: Elevate, Dive in, Revolutionize, Embrace, dive deep, Unlock, etc? No matter how often I tell it to stop using those specific words it just keeps doing it "

Our Answer: When prompting a chatbot, include examples of both what you want and what you don't want. This 'before and after' method is a powerful tool to train the AI. Present sentences or paragraphs where common AI phrases are used and then show how you've transformed them into something more unique and aligned with your brand. This not only helps in eliminating unwanted jargon but also assists in refining the AI's understanding of your specific requirements.

Consistency is key. The more you reinforce these guidelines in your prompts, the more adept ChatGPT will become at producing content that resonates with your brand's voice and meets your marketing objectives."

Tool to Try

Viral Everytime Custom GPT - We've extensively discussed how Custom GPTs enable you to create a host of specialized chatbots within ChatGPT. All you have to do is tell the GPT builder what you want to create, and the builder will take it from there.

However, this powerful tool isn't confined to the limits of your imagination. You can also leverage other people's Custom GPTs simply by accessing them through a shared link.

Resident AI marketing expert Luke Mills recently unveiled his latest Custom GPT creation designed to help you craft viral hooks for reels, shorts, and TikToks.

Simply input your content and you'll get back:

  1. An Irresistible Hook: The initial, engaging statement or question that grabs the audience's attention right from the start. The hook is crucial for sparking curiosity or provoking thought, making viewers want to continue watching to satisfy their intrigue or learn more.
  2. Detailed Foreshadowing: Foreshadowing gives subtle hints or clues about what will unfold later in the video, building anticipation and setting viewer expectations.
  3. A Mouth-Watering Last Line: The last line is the impactful concluding statement of the video, often providing resolution, a surprising twist, or a thought-provoking message. It aims to leave a lasting impression, satisfying the viewer's initial curiosity, or motivating them to engage further with the content.

AI Can't Be Named as Patent ‘Inventor’, UK Supreme Court Rules

In a judgment last Wednesday, Britain’s highest court concluded that “an inventor must be a person” in order to apply for patents under the current law.

The ruling comes after the technologist Dr Stephen Thaler took his long-running dispute with the Intellectual Property Office (IPO) to the country’s top court over its rejection of his attempt to list an AI he created as the inventor for two patents.

The US-based developer claims the AI machine named DABUS autonomously created a food or drink container and a light beacon and that he is entitled to rights over its inventions. However, the IPO concluded in December 2019 that the expert was unable to officially register DABUS as the inventor in patent applications because it was not a person.
